Presented and organized by the Internationale Kammerchor-Wettbewerb Marktoberdorf and Musica Sacra International, projects of the Bundesvereinigung Deutscher Chorverbände e.V. (BDC), the Marktoberdorf competition aims to gather the best chamber choirs of the choral world in a fair and challenging competition, at the same time that looks to offer a platform for the meeting and cultural encounter among singing people and the international choral scene.

While at many international competitions, the choirs do not have the possibility to listen to each other - at Marktoberdorf, this possibility is provided not only in the competition itself, where all singers are admitted to the audience, but also in the common concerts in the evenings, where always three choirs perform together in one of the beautiful churches and halls of the Allgäu region near the Alps.

The competition centre is the MODEON, a big concert hall at Marktoberdorf, where the opening concert, all competition performances, the announcement of results, the prize-winners concert and the final concert will take place. There is a festival tent in front of this building, where all meals will be served and which will be the meeting point for everybody in the evening after the concerts.

The first evening on Friday, June 2nd is the welcome ceremony for all choirs participating - this is the moment, where all choirs are introduced to the jury, the audience and the press. Following the opening ceremony, from 10 pm there is a meeting of the conductors and managers of the participating choirs, members of the jury, members of the competition committee, guests and competition staff members in the MODEON hall. The aim of this meeting is to give the conductors the chance to clarify their final concerns and give all attendees an overview of the other persons involved in the competition.

Competition

This year there will be two categories: mixed choirs and popular choir music. 15 choirs will participate: 10 mixed choirs and 5 pop/jazz choirs. Every choir has to perform in both competition rounds on Saturday and Sunday. The first round on Saturday starts at 9am, on Sunday at 10am.

Evening concerts

On Saturday, Sunday and Monday there will be five parallel concerts every evening in churches and halls in the Allgäu region. In every concert three choirs will perform, a program of 25 minutes each. Some participating choirs will sing in ecumenical church services on Monday in parishes in the surrounding of Marktoberdorf.

Final concerts “SchlussaCHORd” on Tuesday

The two final concerts “SchlussaCHORd” are a sort of musical farewell revue, which are very popular with the Marktoberdorf audience. There will also other activities to promote the actual engagement of all the participating groups: Coaching for choirs, Publishers’ Expo

There will be two juries - one for each category. Each jury consists of five members representing different cultural areas of the world. The members of this year's juries are:
